A question from a reader: John David Booty (USC)

Chase Daniels (Missouri)
Dennis Dixon (Oregon)
Graham Harrell (Texas Tech)
Todd Reesing (Kansas)
Tim Tebow (Florida)
Pat White (West Virginia)

What order would you put them in, in terms of their passing ability? Please comment on some–ideally all–of your rankings.
I forgot to include …

In terms of going pro as a passer:

1 – Brian Brohme (Louisville) – Pro ready, quick release
2 – Chase Daniels (Missouri) – Good size, good athlete
3 – Andre Woodson (Kentucky) – Good in tough schedule
4 – Dennis Dixon (Oregon) – Could be might be.
5 – John David Booty (USC) – Good, but makes mistakes
6 – Colt Brennan (Hawaii) – Gimmick offense
7 – Graham Harrell (Texas Tech) – Gimmick offense
8 – Tim Tebow (Florida) – Still young, probably not a Pro QB
9 – Pat White (West Virginia) – Good college QB
10 – Todd Reesing (Kansas) – No, so far no competition.

  6. Chase Daniels………… another Johnny Unitas.

    1) Chase Daniel – Wonderful mobilty and vision in the pocket. Great arm, can throw across the field aross his body. His heighth will be hard for him in the pro’s.

    2) Andre’ Woodson – Back-to-back great years of 30+ TD’s and under 10 INT’s. Plays great in the SEC’s tough defense’s but needs to improve his completion percent.

    3) Colt Brennan – Almost 60 TD’s a year ago and has a great career completion percent of 70%. Lack of competition makes it difficult to determine how well he will do in the Pro’s tho.

    4) Brian Brohme – Got tore up by South Florida, but still a great QB. Should transfer well into the Pro’s. Cap 30 passing TD’s this year even with a poor team record.

    5) Tim Tebow – He is the most outstanding player in the nation, but it is because of his running game. Deserves the Heisman, but not the O’Brein award. Should develop into a better QB with more time, but also since he is a runner may never get much better as a QB but instead as a RB.

    6) Todd Reesing – Lack of competition hurts him. But like Daniel, small size. Pretty mobile and creates time in the pocket, but did not fare well against Kansas St. Maybe a sign that it’s the defenses weak DB’s is the reason for his success. Never-the-less, he still has 30 TD’s and only 4 INT’s. (3 to Kansas St.)

    7) Dennis Dixon – We know him for his running game, not much of his arm. Only 20 TD’s and his Junior year threw 2 more INT’s than TD’s. Will be out for the rest of the season and that will drop him in the NFL draft.
    8) John David Booty – Hurt this year but had a great season one year ago. Lost the game with four INT’s to Stanford. His completion percent is not impressive, just 62%. But however, he may do something in the Rose Bowl.

    9) Graham Harrell – System QB. First decent defense, Mizzou picks him off four times, then the next week does the same thing against Colorado. Against OU he did not have an great game. Still his 45 TD’s are nice to look at, but can Texas Tech even play power football?

    10) Pat White – Wonderful runnner and has had a great college career to this point and will continue next year. But not a QB, he’s the next Brad Smith, QB in college, WR in the Pro’s.

  10. 1. brian brohm…the best overall passer in the group, he has all the tools you want, excellent accuracy, arm strength, decision making, pocket presence

    2. andre woodson…he might be a better decision maker than brohm, and he also has a great pocket presence and accuracy and good arm strength

    3. colt brennan…say what you want about the system, but he is as accurate a passer as i have seen and has underrated mobility…yes he has a funky delivery and yes he does make some bad decisions, but his accuracy makes them both easier to live with

    4. matt ryan…he’s a little on the smaller side, but he throws a great deep ball and has very good accuracy and presence…his decision making is very questionable, though

    5. todd reesing…his decision making is impeccable, and he is very accurate and mobile…his problem is that at 5-9 or so he needs to be protected better than another quarterback would because he’s so short

    6. chase daniel…very accurate, very good decision maker, can move around, the only things he lacks are arm strength and size

    7. john david booty…he’s also accurate and a good decision maker, but hasn’t got the strongest arm in the world, and he hasn’t always been totally consistent

    8. erik ainge…he has gotten a great deal better in the past couple years, he has very good accuracy, but he hasn’t made the best decisions sometimes, and he has been very fragile

    9. chad henne…good decision maker, accuracy, and arm strength, but he doesn’t stand out to me, and he’s also been injury prone lately

    10. tim tebow…he is very strong armed and throws a good deep ball, and is a good decision maker, but his throws aren’t always on the mark, he is the youngest of the group and will only get better as a passer…to me, he is much more impressive as a runner

    11. graham harrell…he has tremendous accuracy, but he doesn’t have the strongest arm and has shown he will succumb to pressure and force throws just to get rid of the ball…he’s not the typical texas tech system quarterback imo, but he’s got a ways to go

    12. patrick white…he makes good decisions with the ball and has a strong arm, but most of his throws are quick passes into the flat and don’t require too much thought…again, his strength is making plays in the running game

    13. dennis dixon…he is talented, has a strong arm, and has made good decisions with the ball, but he’s very unpolished as a passer yet
