He is currently signed with MoDo hockey in Sweden but I believe he has an out option if he chooses to return to the NHL. Will he return? No…he still isnt healthy and so far has only played 1 game for MoDo (2 nights ago) while continuing his battle with foot issues. Too many questions on his health and with cap crunch most playoff teams are facing he doesnt make much sense as a possible add. It may be asking a lot even for someone as talented as Foppa to have a great Olympics given that he hasnt been able to skate pretty much all season and clearly isnt in any type of game shape. It was a huge question mark up until 2 nights ago whether or not he even made the trip to Vancouver so I cant see a return to the NHL even being on his mind…but stranger things have happened.

Who would want him is the real question

  4. Sure he’d be allowed, but given age, and injury history, and the fact that he wants to play outside the NHL, I think it’s a very long shot.

  5. i don`t know if he is allowed but he should NOT be allowed

  6. Yes, he is a UFA by NHL standards. He could sign with any team until the trade deadline.

Whats next? A Mats Sundin question?

  7. I’m pretty sure he can’t, just like Jaromir Jagr, he is currently signed to a team outside of the nhl in a European league rendering him ineligible. But he has 20 points in 17 games with a +10 rating in the Eliteserien with MODO Hockey, and is playing for FREE with teammate markus naslund. Although, he would be a great acquisition for any team playoff bound; seeing as he has 171 points in 151 playoff games, lead the league in playoff scoring in 01-02 with 27 points while missing the entire regular season, two stanley cups, and has a game winning point (shootout goal, an assist) in each of Sweden’s olympic ice hockey victories (1994, 2006). He is one of three people in the Triple Gold Club twice (2 stanley cups, 2 olympic golds, 2 world championships). Any team that wouldn’t want one of the most clutch hockey players of all time would be stupid. By the way, he was the flag bearer for Sweden last night in the Parade of Nations.
