Is the UFC going to continue to dominate MMA or will other organizations challenge?
A question from a reader: Is the UFC going to be the NFL of MMA and the rest of the promotion companies arena football? Do you think it is best to have one true championship promotional company? Do you think the UFC has a fair ranking system?

I think so. There are good fighters not in the UFC, but I think there are more good ones in the UFC top to bottom. Fedor, Gomi, Sakurai, Yamamoto, Fihlo, maybe Faber and Nick Diaz now that he’s gone from UFC. Now how many good fighters can you name that are in it? A lot. The UFC should probably do a couple more things to get some of these guys in there. More fight cards, a lighter weight class, and dish out the money to either get some of the other fighters out of Japan and Russia or make a deal to have fights between different organizations.

I believe that the UFC should and will contiune to be the top MMA organization. I think the other organizations like IFL, HDNet Fights, etc… should be proving grounds for the UFC( basically what the WEC is to them now) much like AAA, AA, A baseball clubs. They should also make all the UFC fighters fight at least twice a year regardless of what their doing (i.e. making movies or recording the Ultimate Fighter) because this is why they are where they are(Tito).

The UFC will be the top dog. Other orgs are trying to pay fighters alot of money, and it’s just not going to work. The UFC gets bashed alot for not paying their fighters well, but that’s why they’re still in business. Nobody has a roster that can harm them right now. The closest thing is EliteXC IMO, and with Nick Diaz on a suck run, and Jake Shields calling out all the welterweights in the world, yet not going to fight them, they don’t look like they can make a move anytime soon.
When PRIDE was around everyone agreed that they wanted to see all fighters in one place, but as soon as PRIDE was gone, people began clamoring and saying that the UFC needed competition. The UFC is the best single collection of fighters in the world, and if you want to be the best, now more than ever you have to be there.
They have a better ranking system than anyone else. Anyone think Hunt coming off a loss, Coleman, or Zulu deserved fights with Fedor? How about Mike Pyle being a legit title contender with Jake Shields?

Other org. are growing, such as k-1 Heroes, strikeforce, elitexc, and now m-1.
Only time will tell if they grow big enough to compete with UFC.
Monopolies are ALWAYS bad, competition always helps to excel and have higher standards, in this case to treat the fighters better.
UFC currently has NO ranking system, they decide who to have title shots based on fighter marketability.

I don’t believe another organization will gather a group of fighters like the UFC has any time soon, but I do believe there are a number of promoters out there that can put together some great events. Cuban’s deal is going to be the one to air Fedor’s next fight and may end up with the biggest fight to date if they can find him a worthy opponent in a couple of months. Couture’s leaving the UFC should lead the way for others. I believe the future lies in non-exclusive deals. Currently, the UFC doesn’t allow this and prefers to completely own its fighters. Other big fighters like Shogun are completely crippled by UFC’s rule set, so that is an issue as well.
In conclusion, if Fedor’s M1 deal lands him a big fight, and White doesn’t pull his head out from his buttcheeks, you will be seeing a lot more Fedor-style contracts being signed by big names out there.
