Just how good is Brian Urlacher compared to almost any other football player?

A question from a reader: I live near Chicago and I often see the number 54 for Urlacher on most football jerseys, especially when I occasionally visit Chicago.
I guess this guy is one of the most aggressive, energetic, skillful players on the field when it comes tackling and taking someone down.
I must admit when I saw that Bears/Cowboys game I think
2 weeks ago, he did sack the quarterback twice.

He is one of the most effective middle linebackers in the NFL. He’s aggressive and he hits like freight train. I can only think of Ray Lewis of the Baltimore Ravens that can rival him.

Well at his position (MLB) he is one of the best.

Very good linebacker, that’s all. Chicagoans always seem to think that their best defensive player must be the greatest ever, but he never just takes over the game like a Junior Seau, Lawrence Taylor, or Ray Lewis in their primes.

He’s above average. His speed is his advantage. Which he is starting to lose, so he’s sliding.

he’s great, fast, puts big hits, best in the game in dropping back in coverage…….to the person who said he can’t take over a game, wrong…….look at last year’s monday night game against the cardinals…….he took over that game and i believe finished with 17-20 tackles…….and he’s only about 28 so he is not “sliding”

Compared to any other football player, he is above average, and that is about it. He is the best player on the Bears if that helps any, which is probably the reason for the popular jersey number. He is a good player and more than likely a good role model as well, you dont see him getting into trouble.

Urlacher is one of the top three mlb’s in football. the other 2 being Ray Lewis and Zach Thomas. Urlacher has great game and mlb mentality which makes him very marketable. He also is the best player on a superbowl team which gets him noticed.
